WPMUdev - A WP Dev's Swiss Army Knife

If you aren't familiar with WPMUdev, I suggest you go check them out at the conclusion of this article.

Since I really got into web development, WordPress has always been on my mind. It is the management system that powers a multitude of websites across the internet and a huge community that swears by it. I have always liked to keep an open mind and not move forward with any single platform for fear that it might end up restricting me more in the future. The way I see it, there is always the right tool for the job and that tool will give you the best results in the quickest amount of time. There is a lot that can be done with WordPress and there have been some great write-ups discussing the use of WordPress more as an Object-Oriented web application these days. That would be great for someone such as myself who tends to "build out" WordPress a lot for custom functionality. This minor inconvenience has kept me away from moving solely to WordPress.

Now that I have prefaced this, let me tell you how much I love WPMU and its support and involvement of the WordPress community. WPMU offers tons of prebuilt plugins and themes that can easily be added to any WordPress website. They aren't skimpy either. Every plugin and theme comes with more than you could imagine as far as simplicity and flexibility. They also have a huge community built around their products where you can always find someone willing to lend a helping hand. WPMU's products (in my opinion) are not targeted towards developers so nearly anyone who manages their own website can install and setup any of their products. What I enjoy though is the time it saves me from searching for high quality, reliable plugins for clients. I always know that WPMU's products will work without any modifications. They also offer a development blog and daily newsletter that helps keep one abreast of everything trending WordPress.

Recently, the folks at WPMU held a testimonial contest for several lifetime and yearly memberships. Naturally, I entered and won a year membership to all of their products. Checkout my testimonial to the right. So if you are a WordPress developer, user, or just plain enthusiast who likes to know everything that is great in the world of WordPress, I highly recommend that you head on over to WPMU and check them out. If you are looking for a platform to get started on, WordPress is a great jumping off point.
